Ask for a copy, or ask us to erase it

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask what personal data we hold about you and ask us to erase it. This page is how.

1. What you can ask for

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and you may ask us to erase it. You may ask whether or not you have ever been a client — the right belongs to anybody whose data we hold, including someone who only ever enquired.

2. We confirm it is you first

A copy contains everything we hold about a person, so somebody confirms your identity before anything is released. That check is the reason this is not instant, and it is the reason we cannot simply email a copy to whoever asks. If you have a client login the answer appears in your portal; if you do not, we arrange it with you directly.

3. How long we take

We aim to answer within 30 days of confirming who you are. This is the period we hold ourselves to and the same one stated on our app data-deletion page. If we need longer we will tell you why before the period is up, rather than after.

4. What a copy contains

Who we have you as and how to reach you; what you consented to, in the words shown to you at the time, and when; every request or complaint you raised, with the dates we acknowledged and answered it; and the record of any calls — when, how long, and the outcome. You receive it twice: a PDF you can read, and a JSON file that holds every character exactly as we store it and which another provider can import.

5. What a copy does not contain, and why

It does not include call recordings or transcripts. Those carry other people's voices and words as well as yours, so releasing them would answer your right at somebody else's expense — if you need a specific recording, ask and we will deal with it case by case. It does not include your password or two-factor secret: we cannot read those, and a copy of them in a file would be a way into your account.

6. Some records must be kept

SEBI rules require us to retain client records and complaint files for a set period, and those survive an erasure request. Where that applies we will tell you exactly what we kept and for how long, rather than simply refusing. Erasing a record also does not reset anything you have already used — a complimentary week, for example, is one per address ever, and the address is kept precisely so that rule survives.

7. This is not the route for a complaint

If something went wrong with our service or our research, use grievance redressal instead. That enters our SEBI register and is answered on a different, shorter clock. A complaint filed here would be answered more slowly and would not appear in the register we report to SEBI.

What would you like us to do?

We will confirm who you are before we send anything. That check is the reason this is not instant.

You can also email privacy@desvelado.in, which is monitored — but only a request raised on this page is recorded with a reference and a deadline against it. For the mobile app specifically, see Data & Account Deletion.
